The 2011 Labour Party gubernatorial Candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Hon Idorenyin Umoh has declared to join the gubernatorial race under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State.


Hon Umoh who is also a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003 declared to join the race for the Hilltop mansion when he briefed the press on Monday in Uyo.


His declaration is coming less than 24 hours after Governor Udom Emmanuel presented his Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno as his preferred successor.


Briefing newsmen, Hon Umoh who represented Ibiono Ibom State Constituency at the House of Assembly and also served as the Deputy Majority Leader of the Second Assembly noted that he decided to join the race having discerned that he has the quality, credible antecedent and idea to lead the State to a desired height.


He said although he had attempted to express his aspiration in 2011 when he emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, he feels it is time to give his aspiration a shot in the PDP after returning to the party when his aspiration could not fly in 2011.


Umoh added ” I have been part of those who desire to have a government that is just, fair and equitable to the people. A government that people will feel there is indeed a government. I carry a passion for the people. My character and competence can’t be questioned.


” I was born and bred in Akwa Ibom State. I am privileged to be widely travelled to 12 nations. This gives indication that my worldview is broad. I have a mission to see how to harness our resources and create wealth for Akwa Ibom people”.


Commenting on what the governor’s choice of Umo Eno means to his aspiration, the former Labour Party Candidate said he sees the choice as man’s plan but he is determined to contest with hope that God has an agenda.


” Man has a plan but God has his agenda. So, I am not disturbed. I am in the race. I have the support of my people”.


Hon Umoh who said his aspiration will focus on education and human capital development assured that his blueprint will be unveiled soon for Akwa Ibom people to assess his plans for the State.

A look into the profile of Hon Idorenyin Umoh reveals that he is a businessman, and the former Manager of People’s Bank in Akwa Ibom State. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of IBBIL Computers.
